The world thinks you to be better than you actually are. The world thinks you to be less worse than what you actually are. If you think like this, then what you want, will happen. Whatever kind of sankalpa you release in the universe that kind of result will come to you – Sri Sri
Q: Guruji, What karma should I do so that I don’t have to take birth again?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Why not take birth again? We don’t want to take birth again because we find this birth miserable but when there is joy in this birth, you are doing satsang daily, then why not take birth again? When you are in joy, doing satsang and serving people around then you will say I should have hundred more births like this. When you are so tired of this birth, when hopes and desires have tired you, when desires have burnt you then only you say, ‘I don’t want to take birth again’. Whatever desires you have, fulfill those and those which are not to be fulfilled, drop those and be happy.
The role of meditation and other spiritual practices is to withdraw the mind from the sense objects and take it back to its source. This is critical for success in life. The knowledge of coming back to the Self, the self-referral value of consciousness makes it rich, energetic and beautiful – Sri Sri
Q: Why is common sense so less in out politicians?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: So that you can teach them.
You cannot separate knowledge and devotion. In the beginning, if there is knowledge, love (devotion) will soon follow. And if there is love (devotion) in the beginning then knowledge will soon follow. So never think of them as two separate paths. – Sri Sri
Q: Guruji, Krishna is ‘bhavana bhahit’. What does that mean?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: You have used some phrase, you tell its meaning. God is hungry for feelings. He doesn’t need your sweets or flowers. So if you sit with feelings, that is enough. See Krishna everywhere. Lord Krishna says in the Gita, “Wherever you see in any form, I am there. I am knowledge in a knowledgeable person, wherever there is knowledge I am there, I am strength in the strong, beauty in the beautiful, all is me”. Read the Gita deeply and best is to meditate. Be a yogi, yogi is the best.
Only spirituality can check the fanaticism and fundamentalism of religious groups and create a sense of belongingness in the whole world – Sri Sri
Q: How to help a person who has doubts?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Time will heal.
Take everything that happened to you as a blessing! Getting into something is a blessing, getting out of something is also a blessing. – Sri Sri
Q: Guruji, if we are taking any allopathic medicines, will it have any side effects to take Ayurveda along with it? How do we know Ayurveda has no side effects?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: No! The beauty of the Ayurvedic medicines is that there are no side effects and they do not contradict any other medicine. It has been time tested.
That is the beauty of herbology. If you take any medication through herbs, they do not have side effects. All the herbal medicines in the world, if you go through their webpage, they do not have any side effects, but if you take any of the herbs in excess it may not be good for you.
Like for example Triphala, is very good and it has no side effects but if you take too much of Triphala you will have diarrhea, but you cannot term that as a side effect.
There are so many things that are unseen, honor it, accept it, adore it and that is what is called shraddha. – Sri Sri
Q: Now-a-days politics is called a dirty game.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Good people should enter politics.
If you isolate and think only of yourself then you will have the fear of death. Once you are in service, there is no fear of death. Your commitment to do good for others will take care of this fear – Sri Sri
Q: Guruji, Mid-life crisis. How to get interest in living after fifty plus?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Just look at me.
I need you, come and be with me. We will go around the world and we can do a lot of work. I need more and more hands. If you are fifty plus, and have done everything in your life, settled your children, then come over. Even if you are not settled, take one month or two months off and travel.
We need more teachers. You can go and impart to others how to be centered and calm. Whatever little knowledge you have gained, you can impart to others. There is so much more to learn and you can go deeper, yes! I tell you, there will be an abundance of miracles, there is no dearth for it in The Art of Living.
Drop all the negativities and worries that you carry around you. Surrender all of them to God,and be happy. Only then will we gain the power – Sri Sri
Q: Why some people have deeper meditation experiences?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Just wait for sometime.
There is no dearth for grace, we have plenty of grace. Blessings are there in abundance. We simply have to keep doing our work, keep doing what we have to be doing. You should continue doing your karma, your work, that’s important yes! There is no dearth; there is no lack of anything at all, isn’t it? Yes! There is abundance. – Sri Sri
Q: Guruji, How can we keep a smile in front of all despite all the difficult challenges in life?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: When you feel like that, give it to me. I am with you.
Whenever you feel a challenge, remember me. Give me your challenges and know that you are not alone. You will sail through those difficulties that I guarantee you. Alone you may feel it is difficult.
Everyone smiles when everything is okay. The real achievement is your ability to smile when things go wrong. When everything falls apart and you still smile, then you are an Art of living member. You are well soaked in knowledge.
Continue doing whatever you are doing. Be at peace in your mind.Let go of everything.Put away all your worries.they are nothing. When u let go, you will realize that you are peace – Sri Sri
Q: Guruji, How can a child forgive her parents for certain behaviour against her at a young age? What moral authority do the parents still possess?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Listen, if they have done some mistake, they did it because they never had a better education, or a better opportunity. They did not know how to manage their own mind, their emotions, their body. So, it is unfortunate that they went through life like that.
So forgive them so that you will be at peace.
If they had the opportunity to be on a spiritual path or in knowledge, they would not have done what they did. So they did it out of their ignorance. Knowing this, you just forgive them so that your mind will be at peace.
Otherwise if you have grudge against someone all the time then your mind becomes so uptight and it creates toxins. If you are feeling negative, then toxins increase. These toxins cause so many illnesses, including cancer. So, we should always keep our mind free and that is why we forgive everyone so that we can be at peace.
All the problems that you face in life are because you attach over importance to the events. The events grow bigger while you remain smaller. – Sri Sri
Q: What is beauty?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: When you say WOW after seeing something that is beauty.
Your inside is like a tree; in some seasons barren and at other times blossomed. Enlightenment is beyond seasons like the evergreen coconut tree which yields throughout the year. – Sri Sri
Q: How can I get patience in life?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: I am there with you.
Worldly thoughts about money, sex, food, power, status and self-image lead to indulgence, bringing you down from pleasure to disappointment and dejection. Divine thoughts take you up from pleasure to bliss, intelligence and progress in life. Divine thoughts are “I am not the body, I am bliss, sachitananda. I am unbounded space, I am love, I am peace, I am light. Truth is hidden by the golden veil of the mundane. Pierce through this thin glittering sheath and know that you are the sun – Sri Sri
Q: Guruji, On one hand you mentioned that we are insignificant and akin to dust. On the other hand, you said look back throughout your life and see how you overcame challenges. See that there has been a guiding hand. The question is, if we are insignificant, why is there a guiding hand in the first place and if there is a guiding hand, is it fair to say that we are insignificant?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Till you know that there is a guiding hand you are really insignificant. But once, you know that there is a guiding hand and you are part of it, you become very significant. Charcoal and diamond are made up of same material. Coal in itself is insignificant but when it becomes a diamond, it becomes very significant. Truth is always contradictory.
Q: What is astrology? How much of astrology should we know?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: A little bit is enough.
Like how everyone has some difficulty, my difficult is how to really convey to everyone that there is something so beautiful, something so inexpressible that can manifest in peoples’ lives and transform our planet into heaven. It is very difficult to convey this, isn’t it! So difficult to convey this truth, this knowledge when people are just in their head, they don’t understand. Don’t understand that there is something more than what they have just thought or understood in their little mind. – Sri Sri
Q: What is the difference between two words: daya and karuna?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: You give meaning to words. For example: Jhakaas means something in Marathi but it has no meaning in other languages.
