Only spirituality can check greed and open up the hearts of the rich to help the needy – Sri Sri
Q: Guruji, you have said that success in yoga is achieved by dispassion and practice. I am doing my practices, but I am married and I don’t have dispassion. How can I progress in yoga?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: No! Fulfilling your responsibilities is also dispassion. Attend to your responsibilities. Do what you need to do, complete it and rest. That which you need to drop, drop it and rest, this is dispassion.
There is no need for you to leave your home and run away somewhere. You can walk on the path of yoga while fulfilling your responsibilities. Being at home also you can achieve the ultimate truth. There is no problem at all.
Have the faith that whatever I need will be taken care of – Sri Sri
Q: Dear Guruji, can you speak on the seven chakras and the effect of the panchamahabhuta (five elements) on each one of them.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: The pancha mahabhuta has effect on all the chakras. Stomach is connected with fire element; the swadhisthana chakra is connected with water element. The heart is connected with the air element, the throat with the ether element and the mooladhara chakra is connected with earth element.
Finding harmony in chaos, bliss in suffering, wisdom in foolishness, light in darkness, immortality in a place of Death is Bhagvad Gita. – Sri Sri
Q: During Sudarshan Kriya the suppressed emotions come out.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: How are you feeling today? Supplement kriya. Do yoga, bit of walking and do some exercice.
Just keep smiling but continue your work with those who opposes your actions. We shouldn’t cry or be sad about such people – Sri Sri
Q: How come Annaji can stay without food for such long period, is it Yoga power?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: yes, Sacrifice (A feeling of wanting nothing for oneself), dispassion all will give that strength.
Who doesn’t have difficult times tell me? Who didn’t have difficult times in the past? Everybody gets some difficult time, the wise people smile and move through it, the foolish ones keep crying, yelling, shouting, being miserable and making others miserable – Sri Sri
Q: Educational reforms in Pakistan.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: We are educating people at all levels.
If you feel hurt by someone, dont go on poking it again and again. Take some time and take some distance. Go deep in knowledge. Nothing is better than knowledge to heal – Sri Sri
Q: What is the effect of Tantra on us?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: When you are on this path and you have a mantra then no tantra can harm you.
Take a vision for the world and for the society and I will take care of your personal needs. You leave that to me. When you are ready to do something big for the society, for the world and for everybody then your needs will always be taken care of. You will never lack behind – Sri Sri
Q: Guruji, real education happens through life experiences, then why should one go to college?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: College life is pretty good; it is great! You learn a lot. Don’t think you will have no life in college; in fact college life is life because you learn a lot of things. Many times you fall in love, your heart gets broken and then it gets mended. So many things happen there.
Q: Guruji, when Mahmud of Ghazni attacked the Somnath temple in Gujarat, then the Pundit of the temple told everyone that Lord Shiva will help us and there is no need to fight. All the soldiers surrendered their weapons but even then they were defeated. So who is the ultimate God?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: See, that was a wrong thing they did. Shiva is there but he tells everyone to do their dharma, to fight against injustice. Otherwise why should Shiva have a trishul in his own hand? You have seen, all the Gods and Goddesses have shastras (weapons) in their hands. Why should they have weapons? Because intention as well as action, both should go hand in hand.
So Lord Krishna was giving knowledge and yet he was having his Sudarshan Chakra also.
So God is only ultimate, because there is only one God. This is what they asked me in Pakistan. They said, ‘Why are there so many idol worships?’ I said, ‘In India also we believe in only one God, but that one God is worshiped in so many forms and so many ways.’ So it is one God who comes in many uniforms. God is not in the military; in the military they always wear the same type of dress. Our God comes in all the names and all the forms, but it is only one Divinity. So just one idol, one Shiva Linga, or one Shaligram is good enough. Originally in the Hindu tradition the Pooja was done only for the fire and the Kalash, this is how it started. But when the Jain religion came and when they put idols and did such wonderful worship to the idols, the Hindus also felt that we should also do something. Then the Hindus started making different idols. Before there was only one Shiva Linga, that’s all!
While walking if an ant dies, dont feel guilty about it. Intentionally with anger, with emotional rage, don’t destroy anything as it forms Karma. Un intentionally, unknowingly If your just being is obstructing things in nature, you are not responsible for it – Sri Sri
Q: All the scriptures say the same thing. then why do we have so many scriptures?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Why should there not be?
If you are grumbling, you can’t be grateful, and if you are not grateful, how can there be grace? – Sri Sri
Q: Guruji, what is the difference between Upanishad and Purana? Which should I read?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Upanishad is pure knowledge, and the Purana is coupled with stories. Do you know what the meaning of Purana is? It means ultra modern, or the newest thing is called Purana. The meaning of Purana in Sanskrit is different from its meaning in Hindi, they are opposite. What we call purana (old) in Hindi is absolutely new and fresh (purana) in Sanskrit.
So, the new way of presenting knowledge is called Purana.
