Have the trust in life that you are not alone, and there is someone with you. Whatever be your troubles, problems and pains, just surrender it to me. Just say, ‘Guruji, I can’t bear this, please take it’. Think this way or write it, send it whichever way you want to, but you march ahead in life, free of all tensions. This is what I want. – Sri Sri
Q: Guruji, we have heard that there are some enlightened beings present in this world to help people, just like you help us. But they prefer to stay away from people. Are such people present today as well?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: There could be some people like that, some sadhaks who keep doing sadhana. And some feel, ‘why should I get caught up, what is the need ’, they think like that.
There are all kinds of people in the world. There aren’t just one or two great people in the world, but plenty in number.
But that does not mean that those who live in the jungles are superior to those who live in cities.
Many people say, “If I close my eyes, what will happen?” I say, close your eyes then see everything will happen. Anyway death is going to close your eys. Even if you keep it open, nothing can be seen. While living, close your eyes and you will notice that life has become eternal – Sri Sri
Q: Guruji, many times due to work I have to eat outside in a restaurant or a hotel. Is there any way to reduce the impact of that food on the mind?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: You know the impact of food doesn’t stay for too long. Minimum it stays for 24 hours and maximum for 3 days, that is it and then it goes away. Don’t worry about it.
Remember the candle. When you turn it upside down, still the flame goes up. The flame always goes up. In life also so many instances will come, where your enthusiasm is put down, your spirit goes down. Remember, I’m a candle, I’ll come out of this. Nothing whatsoever can stop my spirit, my enthusiasm. Move on like that! – Sri Sri
Q: Guruji, when I see certain men I get very fearful. Sometimes the fear I experience is intolerable. What do I do?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: It is quite natural for a lady to feel this way, and especially if you are alone and you find some really not right intended men around, you should feel afraid, naturally.
Good, that keeps you safe as you would not go there alone. The society is not yet that refined and that sattvik that everybody is good. One should be scared of people who are not very good and without good intentions, that’s fine! Crime against women is so much today, all over the world. This has to go.
Only through a wave of spirituality can we change this situation.
There is a saying, ‘There is no satisfaction in small things, one should dream big. – Sri Sri
Q: Guruji, you say that we should give all our problems to you. When we find it difficult to handle one problem, how do you handle all our problems?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Yes, give me all your problems. I have my own ways for it!
Empty your mind and you can do that by knowledge, remember knowledge and think on soul. When you think of pleasant minded people, you mind also becomes pleasant – Sri Sri
Q: Guruji, what do I do when I am with close friends who keep on blaming others. They say it is sharing and caring, but I don’t want to listen to them anymore. What to do?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Listen to them with ear plugs on. They want to say it because they feel lighter, so let them do it. You don’t take it all in. That is important.
Craving for happiness brings misery. If you do not even crave for happiness, then you are happy. You crave for happiness and you invite misery. When you do not care for happiness, you are liberated and when you do not even care for liberation, you attain love – Sri Sri
Q: Guruji, in the 7 layers of existence, mind and ego have been classified as different entities, but isn’t ego a thought or an emotion?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: No, ego is an awareness of ‘I’. All the four (mind, intellect, memory, ego) have different functions. However, they belong to the same consciousness. Mind is thoughts. Memory is that which appears to record them. Intellect does the decision-making, to decide between right and wrong.Ego is the one that experiences everything. It is the awareness that ‘I exist’.
During sleep, the intellect rests, the ego exists, there are thoughts in the mind and memory is present too. Since the intellect is not present during sleep there is no reasoning and so the thoughts are not coherent.
The mind is calm during sleep and the memory just knows that, ‘I am sleeping’. During meditation all of them dissolve. As you meditate you will know more about this.
If you have committed a mistake, take a sankalpa not to repeat that mistake again. Even after this, if you commit the same mistake again and again, still hold on to the sankalpa not to repeat the same mistake again. If you are not able to get out of this circle of mistakes even after taking a sankalpa, then pray and surrender it to God. These are the two ways to protect ourselves from our own mistakes – Sri Sri
Q: Guruji, What are the different types of Yagya and what is the importance of Yagya in one’s life? Which Yagya is the best?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Dhyan Yagya, Japa Yagya, Dravya Yagya – all these are called Yagya.
So among all these, Dhyan Yagya is best – meditation and group meditation.
Then Gyan Yagya – sitting and listening to knowledge.
Then Japa Yagya – ‘Yagyanaam Japayagyosmi’, Krishna also said Japa Yagya (chanting the name of the Divine) is very good.
And what does Yagya do? It purifies one’s mind, body and environment.
Pain is that which brings back the attention of wandering mind to the level of physical body. Thatswhy when we are not at comfort, we dont feel like enjoying any outwardly attraction. This attention that comes to the level of body should move deeper and deeper to our subtle existence – Sri Sri
Q: If you want to achieve something in your career, what should one do?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Put your effort and ask for blessings.
Drop all your botheration to me and be free from worry – Sri Sri
Q: Dear Guruji, time is a very important factor in success. It should happen at the right time to be fruitful. Do we have the inner ability to ascertain when the right time for something is? If so, how?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Yes. If you want to start any job, first sit quiet and become calm and listen to your inner intuition. Then just start the work.
