Daily Inspiration

SriSriSpeaks: Life needs to be a perfect balance between sound and silence, between dynamic activity and stillness, between being funny and jovial, and then being serious. If one aspect is missing, life is incomplete. If you are only serious, and not funny, then it’s not complete. If you are only funny, you become superficial. You are not deep. Silence is our ability to switch between them, this is most important.

Q: Guruji, Could you please speak about the burn out which is happening in the society including each individual, and the burn out of the planet which is showing in climatic problems, etc. What do you see as a solution for mankind?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: More values, ethics and morality in society. When human values go up, when people start relating to each other as human beings and when we consider the whole world as one family having a sense of belongingness to everybody then the whole atmosphere can change. Isn’t it so?
I have been all over the world but I have never felt not at home anywhere. I have always felt at home with everybody and I feel that everyone can feel that way too. Care for the planet and care for the people.
You watch the news and you see so many people are being killed every day. It is so inhuman to do such things.
I feel that they don’t know how to live, they don’t know the art of living; they only know the art of killing. We need to teach people how to live in harmony; how to love, rather than fight and destroy each other and destroy the planet. It is very painful, isn’t it?
Anyone with a little bit of heart, looking at all this violence will say, ’oh, my God, there is not enough time to express one’s love, where is the time to kill and fight with each other for nothing. Everybody is any way going to die.’

SriSriSpeaks: My only objective in coming here is to remind you that God exists. He is not in some other place or someone who existed at a point in time – that is not the case. He is here, right now.

Q: Guruji, the season is changing once again. Can you please tell us the importance of ‘Ahar Vihar’, food and lifestyle to be maintained with every season. How does it impact us?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Ancient people have done a lot of research on that. Also the modern nutritionists have done quite a bit of research, and if you go and Google, you find a lot of things on what to eat in this season. Today all knowledge is available on the fingertips, correct!
According to Ayurveda there are Vata, Pitta, and Kapha seasons. Now when the summer comes, it is the Pitta that will go high, so you have to take things which calms the Pitta.
Nature is such that it produces only those things which are good for that season. Like in winter pumpkins and gooseberries grow. These are necessary for winter and in summer, they cut watermelons and sugarcanes and make sugarcane juice. This is the season of watermelon. Watermelon never comes in winter and they would not grow watermelon in winter. Watermelon comes up only in this season, now.
So the fruits, vegetables and everything, nature has done it in such a way to suit us according to the time and season. But now, we have gone so far away from nature and our body has also gotten adjusted to that. Otherwise when you are in a climate where bananas, papayas and mangoes grow, there apples do not grow. But now we eat apples also here. We bring apple from other regions. Where apples are grown, bananas don’t grow there in the same climate. Pears, apples, peaches, berries, strawberries and cherries, they all grow in one climate. Is it not?
But you will see people in those climates eat papaya and bananas, which don’t grow there.
That is the ideal thing, but you do not need to worry about it because now your body is used to apple, pineapple and everything, but in one meal see to that you take only those things together. Suppose you are taking bananas, papaya, chikoo and coconut, they all go together. They are tropical fruits. Then at another time you can eat apples, pears, cherries and as such.

You can see the whole world as fools. The advantage is you don’t get attached to anyone. No one likes to associate with fools. If you think people are sane, you want to join them. You can think everybody is a fool and be cool.

Q: My body becomes tense and fearful during every activity I do. During Kriya also?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: How do you feel now (Person says Amazing) Do you feel good? (Yes from the person). Then done.

SriSriSpeaks: This is what Lord Krishna has said in the Bhagavad Gita, ‘Yo maam pashyati sarvatra sarvam cha mayi pashyati, tasyaaham na pranashyaami sa cha me na pranashyati.’ The person, who sees me everywhere and sees everything in me, will never perish; I am always with him and he is always with me.

Q: Guruji, In difficult situations, sometimes it’s hard to know if I am running away, or retreating strategically. How to resolve this conflict?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: When you see your strength is less, you cannot face the fight, that’s when you want to run away. So, when you see that, you have to bring more strength to yourself. You should take time. When you are clear about this; “OK, I should do more, I should meditate, I should strengthen myself, and at the right time I will strike, I will tackle the problem.” That is one way.
Second one is prayer. Your worries dominate you if your emotions are dry. When you have pain, you have no worry. When you have worry, you are stuck in the head. There are no emotions. If you are in emotion, you laugh, cry, pray, and you get over it. Worry is wanting to win and having no strength to win. When you realize, “I don’t have any strength and I can’t do anything about it,” then you pray. Prayer is with emotions, feelings.

In life we don’t want anyone to think badly about us. We don’t like if a few people say bad things about us. Do you also do same with people? Of course, you can’t always say that all the apples in the basket are good. Sometimes you have to criticize. But when you criticize, let it come from your lips only and not from your heart. Don’t hold on to it in the mind. Don’t hate anyone. It harms only you and no one else.

Q: When soul leaves the body, does it wander or gets liberated?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: both are possible. Those who committ suicide, their soul wanders for years. Those who drop the body with pleasantitude and happiness, will be free.

SriSriSpeaks: Be steady inside, and run fast outside. In fact, people do the other way around. They move very slowly outside, but they think too fast. Inside, they are restless and they are running, and they become sick.

Q: I have reported a corrupt person, have told him several times and this time, I have taken the case forward. He will be caught, what shall I do?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: You see, if the person agrees not to do the mistake again, give him a chance, else no.

SriSriSpeaks: Longing and love are two sides of the same coin. You can’t say, ‘I love you but I don’t long for you’. And it is impossible to long for someone without having love. That is why it is said: ‘RadheShyam’. Radha is longing and Sham is love. RadheSham (longing and love) go together in life.

Q: Guruji, I love you (Someone from audience)
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: It is an old story and known secret. Isn’t it?

Q: How does devotion free us from Karma?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar:
Karma means impressions. In devotion, love and service many of those impressions are replaced by something more positive.

The victory of truth is always guaranteed. Always go with this determination. It might seem that truth is being deceived or that one who sticks to the truth is experiencing a downfall, but in the future, the victory of truth is certain. When people use wrong means to climb up, it might seem as though they have risen to the top, but they will definitely suffer.

Q: I go to deep sleep during guided meditation as your voice is like mother Lullaby. This happens very frequently with me. What is the correct way?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar:
It is OK. Let the mind to loose. “The one who lost, found”

Q: Guruji, What is personal Karma, do animals have it also?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Animals don’t have Karma. The strongest impressions in the mind create a situation that is Karma. These are of three types: Karma is the impression in the mind. Karma is the action that is happening now and Karma is a future impression that the action might create.

Q: My father underwent subdural hemorrhage and has lost memory.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Pray for him. Take someone who has done the blessings course and help.

Q: Guruji, what is happening with our monetary system and with the economy in the world? There is so much debt and there is a debt crisis. Also do we still need capitalism?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: You know there is enough wealth in the world. It is just the greed of few people, that they make the market fluctuate and economy crash. All this is happening.
If there are some basic reforms in the share market, the economy in the world would become so much better and stable, and prosperity for everyone will come.
